Thanks for sharing your Tam-O-Shanter Place story. It's always been my hope with this project that people would contribute their own experiences with regards to the places I am photographing.
The time I spend in each alleyway and side street has an influence on what I end up photographing. I'm trying to capture the things that interest me as I pass through, hoping to encourage others to do the same as they are walking down one of Adelaide's side streets. The downside is that I don't get to experience each side street in a way that is personally meaningful on the level that you've recounted. That's why I like hearing stories like yours.
I'm also limited by my abilities as a photographer. Judging by the grey sky in this photo, the light quality on that day probably wasn't all that great. I would have been struggling to get a focussed image. The automatic Canon PowerShot I use allows me to play around with some settings but back then I wouldn't have been using them. Even now, I only occassionally fiddle with some of the settings. So I probably went for a sky shot because I found I could get more light.
When I was in Tam-O-Shanter Place, it had a great big hole next to it. I'll have to go back there soon to see what it's like now...
