One week to go!

It seems that the only posting I do here these days are promises to go out and take more photos. And excuses for not taking any.

Well, tomorrow kicks off the last week of school. There's reports I still need to finish, a classroom to tidy, an official opening of a new building for which I've been asked to photograph and a community singing evening to attend. Hectic. But the end is in sight, which makes it easier to push on a get through it all.

When it's all over, I'll have the time to take photos again. Maybe I'll even finish the Project.

Fingers crossed...

Albert Lane

It was only a matter of time...

I was seeing if an interesting network of pipes would make a good photo, when this lady pulls up in her car and asks me what I'm doing. She's got a name badge on, so I quickly decide that she must work in one of the buildings surrounding Albert Lane. I tell her I'm taking photos. Obvious, I know, but I felt like giving her a stupid answer for her stupid question. Then she asks me for which purpose I'm taking photos. So I tell her that I'm taking photos of every single alleyway and side street in the city. When I tell people that, I usually get hit with more annoying questions but this lady just said 'that's fine' and drove off.

Gee lady, thank's for permission to stand on a public street and take a photo of a gas pipe. If it wasn't for people like you, this city would be crawling with terrorists.

My camera wasn't on its best-quality setting when I took photos on the weekend. I'm happy with some of the compositions but the image quality is crappy. Thus, I'm not going to post any of them. I'd like to get out there this weekend but I doubt I'll have the time.

We'll see...

(Which, as any child knows, is just an adult's way of deferring an inevitable "no")

Can't you feel that sun a-shinin'?

The sun did shine today and I did haul myself by way of my bicycle into town to take photos. I had a great time, too. Well, I was having a great time until my batteries went flat. Serves me right for using my spare set in my Discman. I don't have my battery charger with me at the moment, so I'll have to wait until I can get hold of it tomorrow. Expect some photos tomorrow night.

I watched Kill Bill Vol. 1 earlier today for about the fourth time. That song that Daryl Hannah whistles when she is walking down the corridors of the hospital always gets stuck inside my brain. Then I spend the rest of the day whistling it. Today, I was whistling it down an acoustically inviting alley. Some guy walked passed and I stopped, mid-tune. He pointed at me and then finished the melody. "I've seen that film, too!" he said and continued on his way. I laughed and continued to take photos.

A small black poodle in another alley wasn't so friendly. The dog looked nice enough, just standing there staring at me from around twenty metres away. He barked a few times, calling a smaller dog friend out from hiding. Then they started to chase me. I turned around a ran for the opening of the alley, knowing that I wasn't in any danger but having a good time pretending that I was. I got away safe and unbitten, just as I knew I would.

I returned to the Kill Bill alley a little later and took my harmonica out. I'd like to think that the pigeons enjoyed me huffing and puffing on few blues riffs and a couple of lines from Neil Young's Heart of Gold.

It's good to be out there again. I'm just hoping that the sun feels the same way.

Definitely the weather...

Depending on whether or not the sun decides to show itself this weekend, I'll be venturing into the city to take some photos. I've had a big enough break to make me want to get back out there again. Fresh eyes and all that stuff.

So, expect to see some new photos here on either Saturday or Sunday night.

Taking a break

I'll be taking a break from the Project for a while, possibly until the next school holidays. I feel like my creative urge to get out there and photograph the side streets and alleyways has gone a bit stale. Lately, I can't help but think I've just been repeating myself with the types of photos that I've been taking. At the moment I feel like I should be out there taking photos when I don't really want to. I think I'd rather give the whole thing up completely than feel that way about the Project.

Of course, it could just be the weather...
